Short answer: Study Island costs a school about $5 per student a year for one program, and less per student when you buy several subjects or several schools. Edmentum advertises "as little as $3.00 per student" and a product page price "from $5". A 2021 College Station ISD order form works out to $14.25 per student for three years ($4.75 a year) plus $1,050 per school for the NWEA MAP link. Bundles cost far more: the same district now pays $112,916.26 a year for Study Island, Exact Path and Courseware across K to 12.

Edmentum does not publish a Study Island price list. Its quote page says the per-student price "varies by state, number of students, and number of subjects", and every button ends in a request form or a phone number. The numbers still exist, because school boards approve Edmentum order forms in open meetings and attach them to the agenda. We read Edmentum's quote page, two College Station ISD board packets with the order form and the bid comparison inside, and two Pequea Valley School District agendas. Coeducate is not affiliated with Edmentum, and Study Island is a trademark of its owner. We sell a different kind of product, and the last section says plainly where Study Island is the better buy.

Pequea Valley SD, PA, agendas of May 15, 2025 and June 4, 2026Study Island for one building (listed as PVS in 2025), with the district's instructional software for the year$2,591.25 a year, both years
College Station ISD, TX, quote Q-621690 (memo June 5, 2024)Study Island, Exact Path and Courseware for every K to 12 student, with training$112,916.26 a year, $338,748.78 over three years

The College Station 2021 order is the useful one, because it prices each campus separately. The six campus subtotals ($8,702.25 for 537 students, $11,153.25 for 709, $11,067.75 for 703, $11,338.50 for 722, $10,569.00 for 668 and $13,134.00 for 848) fit one formula exactly: $14.25 per student for the three-year term, plus $1,050 per campus for the "Study Island NWEA Integrated Solution" line that connects MAP Growth scores. The order form does not print the unit prices, so this is our arithmetic, but it reproduces every subtotal to the cent. Per year, that is $4.75 per student and $350 per school.

Pequea Valley's line is the other end of the market: one building, one Study Island line, the same $2,591.25 in two consecutive years. Neither agenda gives a student count, so we do not turn it into a per-student figure. What it does show is that the renewal price did not move between 2025-26 and 2026-27.

Study Island price for a school, worked out

Take a 600-student middle school that wants Study Island for its own building, with the MAP integration, on a three-year term at the College Station 2021 rate:

Line Three years Per year
600 students at $14.25$8,550$2,850
NWEA Integrated Solution, one school$1,050$350
Total$9,600$3,200, about $5.33 per student

That lands right on Edmentum's "from $5" figure, which tells you the advertised floor is close to what a mid-size building actually pays. A 2026 quote will not be at 2021 rates, so treat $5 to $6 per student a year as the planning number for one program, and ask your rep for the current per-student rate and whether it drops with more subjects. Training is a separate decision: College Station's bid sheet notes that the price "does not include professional development/training for product".

Study Island cost compared with IXL and Education Galaxy

The 2021 College Station packet includes the district's bid comparison for the same job, grades 5 to 8 standards practice for three years. It is one of the few public documents that prices three vendors side by side.

Vendor Three-year price Score out of 100
Study Island (Edmentum), with Exact Path for some students$110,198.9587
Education Galaxy and Liftoff$82,336.5082
IXL$277,200.0049

Education Galaxy priced per building ($4,750 a year for an intermediate school and $5,950 for a middle school, with 5 percent multi-school and multi-year discounts). The district still chose Study Island, writing that "while Education Galaxy is more affordable, the Exact Path feature from Study Island offers the most specific supports for students who have the most significant instructional needs." If you are pricing IXL for the same grades, our IXL cost per student breakdown has the current figures.

Why Study Island bundles cost so much more

Edmentum sells Study Island next to Exact Path (adaptive learning paths from MAP or its own diagnostic) and Courseware (full online courses for credit recovery). In 2024 College Station replaced several platforms at once, Progress Learning, Edgenuity's MyPath and Courseware and an Amplify supplement, with the Edmentum package for every student K to 12. Its purchasing memo says the bundle came in "27% less than what was spent for the combination of platforms". That is a fair saving, but it also explains why the number on the board agenda is $112,916.26 a year and not a few thousand dollars: you are paying for three products and every grade.

If someone hands you a six-figure Edmentum figure and asks what Study Island costs, separate the lines first. The practice program on its own is the cheap part. Courseware for credit recovery is usually where the money goes, and our Edgenuity cost for schools article shows what that kind of license runs elsewhere.

Study Island contract terms to read before you sign

The 2021 Edmentum order form spells out terms that matter more than the unit price:

  • Non-cancellable. The agreement cannot be cancelled once accepted, and you must send a purchase order for the full amount of the order form, all three years, before anything is scheduled.
  • Invoiced up front. The full amount is invoiced when Edmentum accepts the order, with payment due 15 days after the invoice date.
  • Your PO terms do not apply. Any terms in your purchase order that add obligations or contradict Edmentum's standard purchase and license terms "do not have force and effect".
  • Services expire yearly. Training and consulting days are valid for an annual term and cannot be carried over.
  • Start date. A renewal starts the day after the prior term ends, or when log-ins are issued.
  • Co-op contract. Texas districts buy through BuyBoard (#573-18 in 2021, #653-21 in 2024), which satisfies competitive bidding.

The 2024 memo names quote Q-621690 and the 2021 one Q-370518, so ask for the quote number and the order form, not a price in an email. When the order form and Edmentum's linked standard terms run to a dozen pages, you can ask questions of the contract PDF and get the clause quoted back, which is faster than reading for the cancellation and renewal language line by line.

Questions to ask Edmentum before you accept a Study Island quote

  • What is the per-student rate per subject, and what does it drop to with two, three or four subjects?
  • Is the NWEA MAP integration a separate per-school line, and do we need it?
  • Is pricing per school or per district, and does a second building lower the rate?
  • What does a one-year term cost against three years, given that the order is non-cancellable?
  • Is training included, or is it a separate line that expires after a year?
  • What will the renewal rate be in year four, in writing?

Where Study Island is the better buy, and where Coeducate fits

Study Island is cheap per student and it does one job well: standards-aligned practice and test prep with state editions and benchmarks in four subjects. If the goal is getting students used to the format of the state test, buy it. Coeducate does not do test prep, has no benchmark assessments and covers only math and reading comprehension.

The gap is the students who keep missing the same standard after two rounds of practice. A practice score says they missed it again. It does not say whether they inverted the ratio or misread the question. In Coeducate the student types the work, the tutor coaches the step that broke without giving the answer, and the teacher gets a card naming the misconception in the student's own words. Schools run it next to Study Island in the intervention block, which is the setup on our Study Island alternative page, and the middle school version is described on the math intervention software for middle school page.

Coeducate's price is public on the pricing page: $89 a month for one teacher and up to 60 students, $2,088 a year for a school of up to 600 students (about $3.48 per student), and $7,740 a year for a district with purchase order billing. Frequently asked questions

How much does Study Island cost per student?

Study Island costs about $5 per student a year for one program, according to Edmentum's product page, and Edmentum advertises as little as $3.00 per student on multi-subject quotes. A 2021 College Station ISD order worked out to $4.75 per student a year plus $350 per school for the MAP integration.

Is Study Island free for schools?

No. Edmentum sells Study Island to schools and districts by quote, priced per student by state, enrollment and number of subjects. The license includes unlimited use at school and at home for the students and teachers covered, so families of licensed students do not pay separately.

How much does a Study Island school license cost?

A single-school Study Island license typically runs a few thousand dollars a year. Pequea Valley School District in Pennsylvania listed $2,591.25 for one building in both 2025-26 and 2026-27, and a 600-student school at College Station's 2021 rates would pay about $3,200 a year.

Is Study Island part of Edmentum?

Yes. Study Island is an Edmentum product, sold alongside Exact Path and Courseware. Districts often buy the three together, which is why board agendas show Edmentum totals of $100,000 a year or more that are not Study Island alone.
