Istation cost and Istation pricing per student and per campus for schools

Istation prints no price on its site any more. Its 2022 Texas filing, Polk County quotes, five district documents and four state contracts do.

Short answer: Istation's last filed price list (Texas, March 2022) charges $29 per student for an Istation Reading account, or a campus license of $3,254 to $11,331 a year depending on enrollment. Istation Español is $27 per student or $2,417 to $8,472 per campus. What districts actually pay lands near those campus prices: Polk County, Florida paid about $9,500 per campus across 75 elementary schools in 2022-23, after a discount of almost 19 percent.

Two things have changed since that list. Istation merged with Amira Learning in June 2024, and istation.com now redirects to Amira's site. Quotes from late 2025 move existing Istation campuses onto the "Amira Reading Suite" while Istation Math is still sold under its own name. Every figure below comes from a public quote, board document, state contract or Istation's own filing, each linked and read in October 2026. Coeducate is not affiliated with Istation or Amira. We sell a different kind of product, and the section near the end says plainly where Istation is the better purchase.

How much does Istation cost on the published price list?

Istation filed this sheet with the Texas Education Agency for grades K to 3. It is the most recent list price we could find in a primary source, and the quotes further down still track it closely.

License Istation Reading Istation Español Reading, per student at the bottom of the tier
Student account$29.00 per student$27.00 per student$29.00
Campus, 100 to 199 students$3,254$2,417$32.54 at 100 students
Campus, 200 to 399 students$5,617$3,957$28.09 at 200 students
Campus, 400 to 599 students$9,650$6,812$24.13 at 400 students
Campus, 600 students or more$11,331$8,472$18.89 at 600 students

Source: Istation Pricing 2022, grades K-3, filed with TEA. Evidence for ESSA lists the same $29 per student figure. These are list prices for a 12-month term. Large districts get discounts, and the Polk County quotes below show how large.

What districts actually paid for Istation

Most board documents print a total rather than a unit price. Where the document gives a count, the last column does the division.

Document and date What was bought Total What it works out to
Polk County Public Schools, FL, quote Q-27612 (2021-22) Istation Reading, partial campus, 73 elementary schools $700,000 after a $109,197 discount on an $809,197 list $9,589 per campus, 13.5% off list
Polk County, FL, quote Q-43350-2 (2022-23) Istation Reading, partial campus, grades 3 to 5, 75 schools $710,932.27 after a $165,679.73 discount on an $876,612 list $9,479 per campus, 18.9% off list; list prices rose about 8% in a year
Dallas ISD, TX, board item (April 2023) Istation, amount committed under the district contract $687,005.75 No student count in the item
Green Forest School District, AR, minutes (June 2022) Istation reading and math bundles for 2022-23, two schools $24,032 About $12,016 per school for two subjects
Marion County Schools, WV, agenda (August 2021) Istation renewal for the 21st Century afterschool program $24,505 Afterschool use only, funded by a federal grant
Xavier Charter School, ID, Amira quote Q-77079 (2025-26) Amira Reading Suite for an existing Istation campus, plus Istation Math K-6 $20,070 after a $1,360 discount on a $21,430 list $12,596 reading plus $7,474 math for one campus

The pattern is clear enough to test a quote against. A mid-size elementary campus on Istation Reading costs around $9,500 to $12,500 a year, and adding math pushes one school toward $20,000. Discounts of 13 to 19 percent show up only at district scale; a single charter campus got about 6 percent.

Istation pricing on statewide contracts

Several states have bought Istation for every eligible student, which is why many teachers have used it without their district ever seeing an invoice.

State and years Amount What it covers
Texas, 2016 to 2017 (TEA contract 3485) $5 million a year, $10 million maximum; on-site training $3,000 per session Reading grades 3 to 5 and grade 3 Spanish, no cost to districts
Idaho, 2023-24 $723,570 The Idaho Reading Indicator for about 90,000 K to 3 students, roughly $8 per student
Idaho, from 2025-26 for up to five years $650,000 a year The same K to 3 test after a contested renewal (vendor announcement)
North Carolina, 2019 to 2020 $8.3 million contract, then a $928,570 emergency purchase for three months K to 3 reading assessment, awarded after a disputed procurement
Massachusetts DESE pilot price sheet, 2020 $5.95 per student; training $2,800 per full day ISIP screening only, 100 to 250 students, with Lexia at $7.20 and NWEA at $9.45 on the same sheet

The gap between $6 to $8 per student for the state screener and $19 to $33 per student for the full reading program is the most useful number on this page. The assessment is cheap. The curriculum and practice are what you pay for.

Istation per student or per campus, the break-even

On the 2022 list, a Reading campus license costs less than buying $29 student accounts once you need more than about 113 accounts in a 100 to 199 student school, or about 194 in a 200 to 399 student school. In the two larger tiers the campus license is always cheaper, because its price divided by the smallest school in the tier is already under $29.

In practice that means per-student accounts only make sense when a small group uses Istation, such as a pull-out intervention group or an afterschool program. If you are licensing a whole campus, ask for the campus price and check which enrollment tier the quote assumes. Partial campus licenses, like Polk County's grades 3 to 5 quote, sit between the two.

What Istation costs after the Amira merger

The June 2024 merger announcement said Amira Learning would be "the go-forward business," and the companies' joint FAQ promised no price changes for 2024-25. After that year, renewals look different. The Xavier Charter quote for 2025-26 lists "Amira Reading Suite (Existing Campus)" under a line for existing Istation campuses, so a reading renewal is now effectively an Amira purchase, while Istation Math keeps its name.

Amira's own pricing runs per student for the tutor and assessment. A May 2026 California quote charged $20 per student, and our Amira Learning cost article collects the list prices and six district contracts. If your Istation renewal arrives with Amira product names on it, compare it with that article, not with your old Istation invoice.

Training and implementation costs

Istation's Texas professional learning filing prices an on-site six-hour day at $82.50 per teacher for up to 40 participants, or $75 per teacher for up to 80, so a full day for 40 teachers runs about $3,300. Virtual packages were $30 or $56 per teacher with a 50-teacher minimum. The Massachusetts sheet priced a full training day at $2,800, and Texas paid $3,000 per on-site session under its state contract. Put one training day in the first-year budget even if the quote does not list it.

Questions to ask before you renew an Istation quote

  • Which product names are on the renewal? If reading now says Amira, ask what changes for teachers and whether ISIP data carries over.
  • Which enrollment tier does each campus sit in? A campus that dropped below 400 students should move to the cheaper tier.
  • Is it a full or partial campus license? Partial licenses cost less but cap the grades or students covered.
  • What discount did a district your size get? Polk County's went from 13.5 to 18.9 percent in one year. Ask for the multi-year rate before signing for one.
  • Does your state already pay for the screener? Idaho, Texas and others have funded Istation assessment statewide; do not buy twice.
  • What is the price increase cap? Polk's list prices rose about 8 percent between 2021 and 2022.

Most business offices now keep these quotes, approvals and renewal dates in one place. If yours still chases them by email, a platform that can route each software quote through approval to a purchase order makes it far easier to compare this year's Istation quote with last year's.

Where Istation is the better purchase, and where Coeducate fits

Istation is the better purchase if you need a K to 3 screener that your state accepts, adaptive phonics and decoding practice for early readers, or Spanish literacy. Coeducate does none of those. It does not screen students, it has no phonics sequence and it starts at grade 3.

What Coeducate does is the part a screener cannot: it works through a passage or a math problem with the student, coaches with questions instead of answers, and writes a card naming the idea that broke, in the student's own words. That makes it a second layer for the students the screener flags in grades 3 to 8, alongside a program like Istation. The reading comprehension intervention programs page shows how that works in an intervention block, and AI tutoring for students covers what to ask before you assign any AI tutor.

Coeducate's prices are on the pricing page: $89 a month for one teacher and up to 60 students, or $3,480 a year for a school with 10 teachers and 600 students, about $5.80 per student. For other reading programs in the same budget, see our articles on Lexia Core 5 cost and Read 180 cost.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Istation cost per student?

Istation's 2022 list price is $29 per student for an Istation Reading account and $27 for Istation Español. Campus licenses bring it down to about $19 to $33 per student, depending on the enrollment tier. Statewide screening contracts are much cheaper, about $6 to $8 per student, because they cover only the ISIP assessment.

Is Istation free?

Not for schools, but it is often free to the district because the state pays. Texas funded Istation reading statewide in 2016 and 2017, and Idaho pays for its K to 3 reading test through Istation. Home access is included with a school license, so families do not pay separately.

Is Istation still available after the Amira merger?

Yes, but under changing names. Istation merged with Amira Learning in June 2024 and istation.com now redirects to Amira. Reading renewals for existing Istation campuses are quoted as the Amira Reading Suite, while Istation Math is still sold as Istation Math. Ask your rep which products your renewal actually contains.

How much does an Istation campus license cost?

On the 2022 list, an Istation Reading campus license costs $3,254 for 100 to 199 students, $5,617 for 200 to 399, $9,650 for 400 to 599 and $11,331 for 600 or more. Polk County, Florida paid about $9,500 per campus after district discounts in 2021 to 2023.

How much does Istation training cost?

Istation's Texas filing prices an on-site six-hour day at $82.50 per teacher for up to 40 teachers and $75 for up to 80, or about $3,300 for a group of 40. Massachusetts listed a full training day at $2,800. Virtual packages started at $30 per teacher with a 50-teacher minimum.
