DreamBox cost: DreamBox Math cost, DreamBox Learning cost and DreamBox pricing for schools in 2026

Short answer: DreamBox Math costs a school about $20 to $28 per student per year on the public district order forms we found, or roughly $7,000 to $7,500 per school for a site license. A Missouri elementary school paid $28.00 per student for 230 DreamBox Math Advanced licenses in 2022, and two schools in the same district paid $20.00 and $19.72. Families pay $12.95 a month or $99.95 a year for one child. Discovery Education, which has owned DreamBox since 2023, publishes the family price and no school price at all.

How much does DreamBox cost per student? Six public documents

Every figure in this table comes from a district document with a date on it. DreamBox sells two ways: per-student licenses in quantity bands, and a site license priced per school by enrollment band. Both show up below.

Three patterns are worth pulling out before you open your own quote. First, the per-student price falls with quantity: $28.00 at 230 seats, about $20 at 270 to 363. Second, the site license is the better deal for any school past roughly 370 students, because $7,437 divided by $20 is 372 seats. Third, professional development is always on the paperwork. It was $350 per webinar in 2020, $500 in 2022 and $723.56 per virtual hour on the 2025 DC contract. None of these documents says the training is mandatory, so it is a line you can negotiate.

The Evidence for ESSA listing for DreamBox Learning, run by Johns Hopkins, gives $30 per student per year and a site license from $7,900. That entry carries pre-acquisition contact details and no date, so read it as an older list price. It sits above every real order form we found, which is how list prices usually behave.

What is the difference between DreamBox Math and DreamBox Math Advanced?

The Fox C-6 order forms and the Howard County report both name "DreamBox Math Advanced", and Discovery Education's pages mention extra teacher tools for Advanced customers. Discovery Education does not publish what separates the two tiers or what each costs, so ask the rep to put both prices on one quote. At Fox C-6 the Advanced line at 230 seats cost $28.00, while Sherwood Elementary in the same district bought Advanced licenses at 363 seats for $19.72. So the quantity band, not the tier, explains most of that $8 gap: crossing from a small band into a larger one is worth more than dropping down a tier.

How much does DreamBox cost for families?

This is the only price Discovery Education publishes, on the DreamBox family pricing page. It covers DreamBox Math only.

Monthly plans renew automatically, and the page says DreamBox runs in a browser and on iPad but not on phones or Android tablets. A school should not use the family price as a benchmark: at $99.95 a child it is three to five times what the districts above paid per seat.

What the quote terms say

• Quotes expire fast. The Redwood City quote is valid for 30 days unless another date is printed, and the Fox C-6 forms carried expiry dates six to seven weeks out.
• The PO must cite the quote number. Access codes are issued only after the purchase order arrives, so a late PO means a late start.
• No refunds. The 2020 terms read "All fees and payments are non-refundable." Buy the seat count you will use, not the one you hope for.
• No auto-renewal on the order form. Service ends when the form expires, and renewal needs a new form, which is the moment to renegotiate.
• Card payment under $8,000. Order forms under $8,000 can be paid by card. If your business office runs purchasing cards, an expense tool that reads the receipt and codes it saves the month-end chase for the matching invoice.
• Reading Plus has a minimum. The Sherwood form priced Reading Plus under "Dual Discipline Pricing", which "req. a minimum of 200 students" and applies when the school also buys DreamBox Math.
• Sole source. Park Hill School District in Missouri holds a 2020 sole-source letter stating the product is sold only directly by the vendor, which is what most districts file instead of bids.

DreamBox cost for a 600-student school, three ways

Take a K-5 elementary school with 600 students, all of them on DreamBox Math for a year.

The Redwood City figure is a 2020 renewal price and will not be the 2026 new-customer price, so treat $7,437 as a floor to aim at, not a number to expect. Still, the gap between the first two rows is the single biggest lever in a DreamBox negotiation: a 600-student school buying per seat pays roughly $4,400 more than one on a site license.

What you get for the money, and what you do not

DreamBox Math is adaptive math for grades K to 8. Students work through interactive lessons, and the program adjusts the next lesson to what they just did. Discovery Education's family page recommends about an hour a week or five lessons a week, and its educator page talks about twenty minutes a day. For a school that wants every K-5 student getting structured, adaptive practice on a device, that is a reasonable purchase at $12 to $28 a seat.

What the dashboard does not give a teacher is the reason a particular student is stuck. You see lessons completed and standards progress, not the sentence a third grader wrote when she decided 1/4 is bigger than 1/3 because 4 is bigger than 3. Six questions to ask before you sign the DreamBox quote

1. Is a site license cheaper than per-student seats at our enrollment? Past about 370 students it has been on every document we read.
2. Is this DreamBox Math or DreamBox Math Advanced, and what is the price of each on the same quote?
3. Is professional development optional, and can the webinars be dropped or moved to year two?
4. If we add Reading Plus or DreamBox Reading, what is the dual-discipline price and the minimum seat count?
5. When does the quote expire, and will the price hold if the PO is issued after that date?
6. Does our state already fund it? Montana, for example, paid for DreamBox Math and Reading Plus statewide for 2023-24 and 2024-25, so check your state education agency before spending local money.

Where DreamBox is the better buy, and where it is not

Buy DreamBox if you need adaptive math practice for every student from kindergarten, especially in K-2 where students cannot yet type an explanation, and if a site license gets you under $15 a seat. It is a practice and instruction program with a long research record, and at site-license pricing it is inexpensive per student.

Do not expect it to tell your interventionist why a fourth grader keeps getting fraction comparison wrong. If your grades 3 to 5 intervention block spends its time working that out paper by paper, the missing piece is a diagnosis of each student's reasoning. Coeducate publishes its price without a quote: Classroom at $89 a month for one teacher and up to 60 students, School at $349 a month or $3,480 a year for up to 600 students, and District at $1,290 a month with purchase order billing.
