ALEKS cost: how much does ALEKS cost per student? ALEKS pricing for schools and districts in 2026

Short answer: ALEKS costs a school $48.22 per student for a 12-month subscription at McGraw Hill's published K-12 rate, $36.24 for a nine-month (40-week) school year, and $20.70 for a single month. Large districts pay far less: Collier County Public Schools in Florida was quoted $18.08 per student for 25,000 one-year subscriptions in 2024, with 15,000 teacher accounts included at no charge. Families pay $19.95 a month or $179.95 a year for one student. ALEKS 360, which bundles a McGraw Hill eBook, is $71.01 per student for 40 weeks, and QuickTables on its own is $10.35 a year.

Unlike most of the programs we have priced, McGraw Hill actually publishes a K-12 rate card for ALEKS, so half of this article is simply that card, read on September 21, 2026, and the other half is what districts paid once a sales representative got involved, taken from quotes school boards posted in their own meeting packets. How much does ALEKS cost per student? The published K-12 rate card

The Order PreK-12 ALEKS Online page on mheducation.com lists a price per student for every subscription length. These are the rates a school pays when it orders online with a card or a purchase order and no negotiation. The subscription covers the whole ALEKS course library for grades 3 to 12, one course at a time per student.

Two things stand out. The nine-month price is the best value on the card: it costs $11.98 less than the 12-month subscription and $9.31 less than the 10-month one, and it covers a normal school year. And short subscriptions are expensive per month, so a summer program or a one-semester intervention block should be priced on the five-month or seven-month line, not as a string of monthly renewals.

What districts actually paid for ALEKS: four public quotes

School boards publish vendor quotes as attachments to their agendas. Four of them, spanning 2022 to 2025, show what the rate card turns into once quantity and bundling enter the conversation.

The Collier County line is the one to remember. At 25,000 seats the district paid $18.08 per student per year, which is 62.5 percent below the $48.22 online rate for the same 12-month term, and every teacher account came free. That is the ceiling of the discount we could document. A 600-student school will not get that number, but it does tell you the rate card is a starting point, not a floor.

The Kirtland quote shows the other way ALEKS is sold: inside a core curriculum bundle. Each Reveal Math student bundle at $166.92 covers seven years of print student editions, the digital center, ALEKS and MH+, which works out to $23.85 per student per year with the textbook included. If your district is adopting McGraw Hill for core math anyway, ALEKS may already be in the bundle, and buying it separately would mean paying twice.

The Lee's Summit line is a different product with the same name. Sixty-five licenses for a college-level statistics course came to $107.51 each, roughly the higher education ALEKS rate that includes the course eBook. If a high school runs dual-credit sections through ALEKS, budget at that level rather than at the K-12 card.

How much does ALEKS cost for families and homeschools?

The consumer subscription is priced on a separate McGraw Hill page, Choose Your ALEKS K-12 Subscription. One student pays $19.95 for one month, $49.95 for three months, $99.95 for six months or $179.95 for twelve months. A family discount applies when several children are enrolled on equal terms: two students on a 12-month term are $305.90 together, three are $431.88, four are $539.84, five are $674.80 and six are $809.76.

Put that next to the school rate and the arithmetic is stark. A parent pays $179.95 a year for the same course library a school buys for $48.22, and a large district buys for $18.08. A school that is tempted to send families to the consumer product to save its own budget is asking them to pay three to ten times the institutional rate.

What is included in the price, and what the quote terms say

A K-12 student subscription gives one student access to the full ALEKS course library, with one course active at a time. Teacher accounts are free on every quote we read, including 15,000 of them on the Collier County order. Professional development for ALEKS appeared as a $0.00 line on the Kirtland quote, so it can be included, but it is a quote item rather than a guarantee.

The terms printed on the McGraw Hill quotes matter for the business office:

• The price is firm for 120 days from the quote date on the Collier and Kirtland quotes, and for 45 days on the 21st Century Cyber Charter quote. Board approval timing has to fit inside that window.
• The quote must be attached to the school purchase order to receive the quoted price and any free materials.
• If no term is specified, the initial term is one year from the quote date and the subscription renews for additional one-year terms, provided McGraw Hill chooses to renew and sends an invoice. The renewal is on their calendar, not yours, which is a reason to track every software renewal date in one place rather than in the last year's board packet.
• Shipping and tax are estimates and applied at order time. On a digital-only order shipping is nil; on the Kirtland print bundle it added $3,605.47.

ALEKS cost for a 600-student school, three ways

Take one building, 600 students, one school year. Here is what the same purchase costs depending on which line you buy from and how well you negotiate.

The gap between the first row and the third is $18,084 for one building, and the only difference is who signed the quote. If you are buying for more than one school, get the district rate, and ask the representative directly what quantity band produced the Collier County price. If you are buying for one intervention block rather than a whole building, the five-month or seven-month card price for 30 students is under $1,000 and needs no quote at all.

What you get for the money, and what you do not

ALEKS is an adaptive practice and assessment system built on knowledge space theory. A student takes an initial knowledge check, ALEKS builds a picture of what the student can and cannot do, and then serves topics the student is ready to learn, with periodic re-checks to confirm retention. The pie chart of mastered topics is the report. The course library runs from grade 3 arithmetic through precalculus and AP, and the same engine powers McGraw Hill's college placement product, which is why community colleges and universities use it too.

That is a lot of product for $36 to $48 a year, and for a school that needs a complete adaptive course library with topic-level mastery tracking, it is hard to beat on price. What ALEKS does not do is read a student's written reasoning and tell the teacher why the answer was wrong. It knows which topics a student has and has not mastered. It does not know that a student adds denominators, scales a ratio by adding, or drops the sign when moving a term across the equals sign, because it scores the answer, not the working. For a Tier 2 group where six students missed the same item for six different reasons, the teacher is still re-marking papers to find the pattern.

Six questions to ask before you sign the ALEKS quote

1. Which quantity band is this quote in, and what does the next band down cost per student? Collier County's $18.08 exists; ask what it takes to get closer to it.
2. Is the term nine months or twelve? The 40-week line is $11.98 cheaper per student on the card, and most schools do not use the program in July.
3. Are teacher accounts and ALEKS professional development on the quote at $0.00? They were on every document we read, so a quote that charges for them is out of step.
4. Is ALEKS already inside a McGraw Hill core math bundle we own or are adopting? Kirtland's Reveal Math bundle included it for seven years.
5. Is this the K-12 product or the higher education course with the eBook? Dual-credit sections were billed at $107.51 per seat at Lee's Summit, more than double the K-12 12-month rate.
6. What is the renewal notice period, and who sends the invoice? The printed terms let the vendor renew for another year by sending an invoice, so put the date in your own calendar.

Where ALEKS is the better buy, and where it is not

Buy ALEKS if you need a complete adaptive course library from grade 3 to precalculus, topic-level mastery reporting that maps to a course, a placement product for dual enrollment, or a vendor with a research record that goes back decades. At $36 to $48 a student, or half that at district scale, it is one of the least expensive ways to put a full adaptive math sequence in front of every student, and the free teacher accounts remove the usual per-seat argument about staff.

Do not expect ALEKS to explain a wrong answer. If your intervention block is spending its time working out why each student got the item wrong rather than delivering the reteach, the missing piece is a diagnosis of the student's working, which is what Coeducate produces after every session.
